Description

Press release from the City of Millbrae: 07/22/2021 10:37 AM By the end of June 2022, more than $52 million will have been invested in Mills High School's and Capuchino High School's stadiums, fields and sports complexes through local Measure L funding. On December 17, 2020, the San Mateo Union High School District Board approved a bond project list and bond issuance schedule which served to launch projects under Measure L - a $385 million general obligation bond approved by local voters in March of 2020 to improve facilities across the San Mateo Union High School District which includes Mills and Capuchino High Schools. Construction began in May 2020 at Mills and Capuchino High Schools to provide dramatic improvements to fields and stadiums at the schools. The project at Mills replaced the grass field with synthetic turf at the school's stadium field. The project at Capuchino included the same synthetic turf on the school's stadium field. Synthetic turf fields are less costly to maintain, significantly reduces water consumption, and allow teams to practice and play even if the weather is inclement. Both stadium projects were budgeted at $2.3 million each and were completed in October 2020. The stadium fields and tracks may be used by the public. The project currently under construction at Mills High School involves a new Sports Complex including new tennis courts as well as new turf baseball and softball fields and sports lighting at all venues. The project currently under construction at Capuchino High School involves the construction of new lighted tennis courts, as well as new turf baseball, softball and multisport fields. Construction of the Mills and Capuchino Sports Complex Projects began in June 2021 and is slated to be completed by June 2022. The projects are budgeted at $48.2 million. These facilities are not currently accessible to the public while they are under construction, but residents will be able to rent them when the projects are completed.   Mills High School Sports Complex Site Plan This press release was produced by the City of Millbrae.
