Wanted: drummer and bass player for indie pop/punk project
Meets
Santa Cruz CA
Description
Hi musicians, My name is Grant and I’m a local musician raised in Santa Cruz. In high school I was a part of an indie rock band that played around town, but that was several years ago and now I’m back with not much of an idea of the local scene. Last March I released my first solo album under the name Grant Summerland. This was an album I spent years slowly making - writing, recording, mixing - everything. The album was meant to be a teen horror movie concept album about growing up in Santa Cruz. Some of you may have seen this article in the Goodtimes about it: https://goodtimes.sc/santa-cruz-arts-entertainment/grant-summerland-explores-creepy-side-mountain-life/ Now the wait of COVID is finally coming to an end and I'm looking to form a live band to play these songs out in the real world as soon as possible. I want it to be professional, but I also firmly believe that playing music live should be fun above all else. What I am looking for is a drummer, and bassist. It would be a big plus if bassist was able to play keyboard, even in limited capacity. Ability to sing backup is also a huge plus. Here is a Spotify link to the album that I released last March if that is anyones preferred method of listening for this explanation: https://spoti.fi/394sro0. The recorded album at the link above is a large mix of genres: namely hip hop, indie pop, and indie rock. In a live setting though, I have a much different idea of how the songs should sound. I am interested in taking the songs and turning them into punk songs, with some other influences. Think of some mix of Jeff Rosenstock, PUP, even older Fall Out Boy and things in that vein. I’d also include bands like Deerhunter and King Krule in the mix (I especially appreciate what King Krule has done to meld punk rock with jazz music and on certain songs would want to do something with that). Songs that are pop-punk in the sense that they have pop sensibilities and punk sensibilities combined with a bit of an indie rock approach. In fact, I took some time during COVID to record a demo EP of what some of these songs would sound like live. Some are straight up pop-punk, some are more of that indieish sound. Check it out here: https://grantsummerland.bandcamp.com/album/patterson-gimlin-live-demos-2021 I hope this gives people a good idea of what these shows would be like. Again, I really just want to play some shows out and have fun! Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from some of you!
