SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man was arrested in connection with a residential burglary last week after he broke into a home and was discovered by the man who lived there, police said.
Officers responded at 10:20 a.m. to the 1600 block of Folsom Street regarding a "hot prowl burglary" where gunshots had been fired, the San Francisco Police Department said in a statement.
A 66-year-old man told police he heard noises coming from the kitchen of his apartment on the second floor of his home. When he went to the kitchen to investigate, he watched a man climb through his window. Fearing for his safety, the 66-year-old man grabbed a handgun and returned to the room. The suspect, who was standing in the kitchen, attempted to leave through a rear door but suddenly turned toward the victim, who fired his gun.
The suspect, who was not struck by gunfire, fled downstairs to a common area between a restaurant and more apartment units. The victim followed him and told him to stop. The suspect complied and the victim held him there until police arrived.
Danny Babineaux, 37, was arrested in connection with the incident and was booked into the San Francisco County Jail.
Anyone with information about this incident was urged to call the SFPD tip line at 1-415-575-4444.
