Description
Touro University California is seeking research participants for studies on how dietary fructose affects metabolic risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The study consists of:
• A screening visit (~1hr), a baseline visit (~4hr), and 4 separate test days (~8hr each; 2-6 wks apart) at the Metabolic Research Center on the Touro University California campus on Mare Island,
• Consuming test meals and providing multiple blood and urine samples on each of the 4 test days.
• Consuming a 3-day diet provided by the study prior to each test day.
• Having body composition measured using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) at the beginning and end of the study.
Eligibility:
• Adult volunteers, 20-55 years old,
• Non-diabetic (pre-diabetic OK) and not taking diabetes or lipid-lowering medication.
• No history of HIV, cancer, kidney, or liver disease.
• Women should not be pregnant or nursing.
• A clinic screening visit and blood draw will determine final eligibility.
Participants who qualify and participate in the study will receive up to $1000. The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
