Description
The GI-BMP program teaches environmentally safe landscaping practices that help conserve and protect Florida's ground and surface waters. This workshop is designed to provide training in the Green Industry Best Management Practices (GI-BMPs) for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal groundscare business. The GI-BMP program is focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilizer or pesticide applications. At the end of this training you will be given a post-test to determine knowledge learned. If the post-test is successfully completed, you will be mailed a Green Industries BMP certificate of completion. This certificate allows for the issuance of a Limited Urban Fertilizer (LUF) License through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). This training will also satisfy the training requirements of the City of Tallahassee and Leon County fertilizer ordinances. If you apply lawn & ornamental fertilizers as part of your job in these areas, you must now receive this training and certification. This class will also provide the CEUs needed to renew a Limited Urban Fertilizer License and Limited pesticide applicator licenses through FDACS (2 CORE + 2 LUF). Lunch is provided. The Cooperative Extension Service is a partnership between state land grant universities, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and county governments throughout the nation. In Leon County, the partnership includes the University of Florida (UF), Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), and Leon County Government. UF/IFAS Extension’s mission is to develop knowledge in agriculture, natural resources, and the life sciences, and to make that knowledge accessible to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. Leon County Extension conducts research-based educational programs in Agriculture and Food Systems, Horticulture, Family & Consumer Sciences, and 4-H Youth Development.
