Power Restored In Malibu After 129 Lose Power

MALIBU, CA — 129 people around Point Dume and Trancas Canyon were without power Monday morning, according to the Southern California Edison. A traffic accident Sunday afternoon around Point Dume caused an outage that initially impacted 396 customers, an SCE spokesperson told Patch. Most customers had their power restored within an hour, but as of 10:44 a.m. Monday, 71 customers are still affected. As of 2:03 p.m. Monday, all customers have had their power restored. Another outage near Trancas Canyon caused by "upgrading equipment"affected 58 customers until power was restored after noon. The outages come during unusually hot weather for Malibu. The city is under an Excessive Heat Watch until Wednesday at 7, and temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s until Wednesday before cooling down Thursday. Over the mountains in cities like Calabasas and Agoura Hills, temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees a few days in a row. The hot week is off to an unpromising start, with outages reported near Malibu. In Agoura Hills, 11 customers were without power from 9 to noon Monday due to equipment upgrades. 18 customers in Topanga were also without power due to equipment upgrades, with an estimated restoration time of 4 p.m. The Westlake Village Library is an official LA County cooling center, and is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
