Description

AFTER THE STORM - LIVE CONCERT MINI-SERIES by Project: Music Heals Us You are cordially invited (and encouraged!) to join us for a two-concert mini-series of LIVE, IN-PERSON concerts (...who remembers "live" concerts, enjoyed in the company of vaccinated friends and kindred spirits?) in support of the life-affirming work of Project: Music Heals Us. Music aficionados are also invited to take a peek behind the curtain and attend a very limited capacity open-rehearsal! The two concert programs are built around the two polar opposite moods of Ludwig van Beethoven's musical ouevre. The Sturm und Drang ("Storm and Stress") style encapsulated in his 5th Symphony; contrasted by the lovely, debonaire style that he learned from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Joseph Haydn. Please join us for one (or BOTH!) of these concert events, hosted at the comfortable abode of Lawrence Janss. --- CONCERT #1 - THE STORM THURSDAY, JUNE 17th, 7:00pm Handel-Halvorsen - Passacaglia J.S. Bach - Partita in D Minor - Chaconne Beethoven - String Quartet Op. 18 No. 4 (“Storm and Stress”) --- CONCERT #2 - THE CALM! FRIDAY, JUNE 18th, 7:00pm Trad. - Amazing Grace (arr. Ning Kam) Summer - Julie-O Leclair - Duo Beethoven - String Quartet Op. 18 No. 2 (“Quartet of bows and curtsies”) Hors D'ouevres and full bar is included with your ticket purchase. ----- OPEN REHEARSALS The quartet works assiduously in rehearsal, perfecting each movement of Beethoven's masterpieces. A rehearsal starts with a runthrough of the full piece, soup to nuts, after which every note, every bar and every phrase is broken down, reimagined, argued about... note by note, phrase by phrase, nuance by nuance. The Ensemble is inviting a small number guests to join them, sitting comfortably around to enjoy the debate and the banter, experiencing how highly skilled professional musicians make their particular brand of sausage. Open rehearsals will take place from 6-7pm each concert day. Seating is extremely limited! When the rehearsal is over, the musicians invite you to engage in a q&a and freewheeling, rambling exploration of the music with your fellow guests. ----- YOUR TICKET PURCHASES MATTER! Proceeds from these concerts will go towards the development of PMHU's digital, accredited college music composition course to be launched in 2022 with the Bard Prison Initiative. Over the course of 20 classes, the participants in these programs will take part in an in-depth, immersive course on the sixteen Beethoven String Quartets - using Beethoven’s music, life, inspirations, and compositional techniques explore the many facets of music composition, including melody, harmony, instrumentation, etc, with the aim to graduate with a fully formed music composition all of their own.
