COACHELLA, CA — One of two people killed when a big rig crashed into their sedan in Coachella was identified Friday as a 47-year-old Palm Desert man.
Ignacio Guzman-Corona was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision reported about 10:50 a.m. Thursday in the intersection of state Route 86 and Avenue 50.
The name of the other person was not immediately released.
Two others were taken to a hospital suffering from injuries ranging from minor to moderate, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported. It was not immediately clear which vehicle they were traveling in.
Southbound state Route 86 was closed at Interstate 10 for several hours for the investigation and wreckage removal, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Imperial Irrigation District crews were summoned to the scene to repair a damaged power pole.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
A GoFundMe page set up to pay for Guzman-Corona's funeral expenses had raised more than $1,500 as of early Monday afternoon.
