Description

Local film screening! Join filmmaker Curtis Craven for a screening of his new PBS film, Life in the Logwoods. The loggers first arrived in East Texas in the early 1880’s. Long-forgotten mill towns, and scores of hardscrabble logging camps literally sprang up overnight, clear-cutting great swaths of majestic virgin pine forest. Over time, the forests have grown back and today a new generation carries on the work of their forefathers. Life in the Logwoods: the East Texas Timber Legacy documents this rugged legacy interwoven with profiles of modern loggers, sawmill operators, tree farmers and migrant workers—all the people who do the demanding and dangerous work of bringing wood to market.
