MARTINEZ, CA — The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the U.S.Drug Enforcement Administration are partnering Saturday to give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. April 24, residents can bring their pills, patches and liquids sealed in their original container to one of six drop-off locations, including in Martinez: Office of the Sheriff Muir Station Field Operations Building, 1980 Muir Road, MartinezOffice of the Sheriff Bay Station West County Detention Facility, 5555 Giant Highway, RichmondOffice of the Sheriff Valley Station, 150 Alamo Plaza, #C, AlamoDanville Police Department, 510 La Gonda Way, DanvilleLafayette Police Department, 3471 Mt. Diablo Blvd., LafayetteOrinda Police Department, 22 Orinda Way, Orinda "This is a great way to get rid of unused prescription drugs in our homes," said Contra Costa Sheriff David Livingston. "These drugs could fall into the wrong hands and harm family members and friends. This is an opportunity for everyone to help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths." Needles and sharps are not accepted at drop-off locations but vape pens or other e-cigarette devices are accepted if the batteries have been removed. The service is free and anonymous; no questions are asked. COVID-19 protocols will be followed.
