Is Marin County a good place to move to from LA

I am a KP--- LCSW in my early 60s. I am burned out in LA and the rental market is very bad. I know it's expensive up there. Is Marin County a down to earth place to connect with new friends and date. I have a chance to transfer up there. I appreciate your honest feedback. or is it like So CAL. I am at loss of where to go.
