Description

The Northern California School of Sleep Medicine is offering a 10-day A-STEP introductory course, consisting of the instruction and education on sleep disorders, sleep studies and patient care. Our next course will be held June 7th through the 18th, and will total 80 hours. Classes will be Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm at California Sleep Solutions' Sacramento Sleep lab. Students will have the opportunity to work one on one with Technicians and expand their knowledge in the field of Sleep Medicine. Upon completion and a passing grade on the final exam, a certificate will be awarded by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Once the course has been completed, there is also opportunity to immediately advance into an internship position with California Sleep Solutions, followed by Full Time employment. What Does a Sleep Tech Do? Sleep technician trainees usually work overnight shifts in the beginning of their career. During a night shift, sleep technician trainees connect patients to diagnostic equipment while acquiring data throughout the night to determine if a sleep disorder is present. Sleep technician trainees work under the supervision of the facility director or other experienced sleep technicians. Other important duties include patient care and education and therapeutic services. The sleep technician trainee will learn through hands-on experience how to verify medical orders, explain procedures to patients, prepare and calibrate equipment, perform PAP mask fittings, perform polysomnographic data acquisition, document observations, and perform appropriate interventions according to protocols. Applicant Pre-Requisites: High school diploma or GED plus six months of direct patient care experience or one year of postsecondary education. Contact us for more information on our upcoming class.
