Take a closer look at the botany of vernal pools and get to know some of the less common water-adapted plants found at Tomodachi Park
The showy flower species of vernal pools often have the spotlight but vernal pools also host unique endemic species we call “tiny green mysteries”. Take a closer look at the botany of vernal pools and get to know some of the less common and fascinating water-adapted plants found at Tomodachi Park in Sebastopol. You’ll start to notice more different tiny green plants than you ever thought possible and amaze your friends with your botanical knowledge!
There will be limited walking off-trail during this event. We require wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt for protection from sun, grass, and ticks. We recommend rain pants or pants you do not mind getting wet and rain boots - there will be frequent kneeling and crouching to look at small plants.
There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
Please note this is an in-person outing. All in-person events follow current Sonoma County health orders and guidelines for group activities to keep everyone safe during COVID-19. Masks and social distancing will be required and participants will have their temperature checked upon arrival. Please let us know in advance if you can no longer attend so we can offer a spot to someone on the waitlist.
