San Ramon's Young Philanthropists Eligible For New Scholarship

SAN RAMON, CA — Students in San Ramon and across the San Ramon Valley seeking to change their communities through kindness may now apply for Community Presbyterian Church Danville's inaugural college scholarship program. One student each from California, Dougherty Valley, Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley high schools will be chosen to receive a $3,000 scholarship for a two- or four-year college. "Our students are a vital part of our community," said Bill Haslim, CPC Danville's pastor of student ministries, in a news release from the church. "We want to acknowledge the ways they are already making a difference in our valley, and we want to encourage and invest in their future development." Applicants can submit an essay, song, photo, painting, dance, drawing, video, monologue or poem that expresses how the student has served others, according to CPC Danville. Students should also share how that act can make an impact in another's life. Maybe that means taking out an elderly neighbor's trash or writing a kind note. Maybe it's helping those in need, caring for the environment or creating awareness around mental health issues, the church said on the application form. The scholarship program is an extension of CPC Danville's community initiative, For the Valley, which kicked off two years ago, said Tyler Scott, the church's lead pastor, in the news release. "We believe that being for others, like God is for us, can change the world," he said. Students have until midnight April 20 to send this application to [email protected]. CPC Danville's scholarship team will respond to applicants by May 6.
